A multivitamin can be look at as a the type of supplement to cover yourself, just so that you ensure that you are getting your daily requirements of vitamin and minerals that we don’t get from our diet.

Any bodybuilder will tell you that multivitamins are non-negotiable. They are the single most important supplement that anybody, athlete, body builder or average Joe needs in their diet to allow their body to perform at its peak performance for muscle growth to occur.

Too often people fall into the understanding that they don’t need a multivitamin because it has no direct effect on their muscle gains. Why do I need a multivitamin?

Every single vitamin and mineral is responsible for thousands of biochemical reactions, including hormone formation.  By letting your body become deficient of any one of these vitamins or minerals the body’s performance begins to decline due to metabolic pathways breaking down. This leads to over a thousand chemical and enzymatic processes to be damaged.

Body builders need more nutrients than the average person because of the immense stress that is being put on their body through training. So if everyday people believe they need a multivitamin, how much more does a body builder need one? Through their muscle growth focused diet body builders often do become deficient in certain vitamins and minerals, and the way the good body builders get around this problem is by supplementing with a multivitamin.

It is easy to focus on protein, carbohydrate and fat intake when body building, but what many don’t realise is that nothing can happen without vitamins. There is not a single cell in our body which does not require the use, or interaction with some vitamin or mineral, especially muscle cells for growth and maintenance.

What do vitamins do?

Vitamin A is required for the health of your eyes, skin and your growth. Vitamin B helps from many ailments, Vitamin C Is required to keep energy levels up, support your immune system and fight against arthritis. Liver, oily fish, nuts, dairy, whole grains, potatoes, salad and citrus fruits are all the food you need on a daily basis just to get the minimal dose of these vitamins. On top of this you need to get iron, iodine, zinc, and calcium through many other foods also, and all of this can often be too hard to consume on any given day.
