The Truth About Fat Burners

Fat burners have always been a popular item within the fitness community. I mean, why wouldn’t they be? Who wouldn’t want a magic pill that can melt the fat off your body like an ice cream stuck in the middle of the Australian outback? Unfortunately, if it was that easy, everyone would be walking around looking like [insert name here] and because everyone’s idea of the perfect body is completely different, I’ll leave it to you to fill in the blanks with whoever you deem embodies nothing but absolute perfection.

Fat burning supplements work in a variety of ways. They can boost energy, help curb appetite, promote fat to be used for energy, and even increase your metabolism and core temperature so you burn more calories throughout the day. Most fat burners usually contain different ratios of the same substances like caffeine, green tea extract B vitamins, chromium, L-carnitine, and raspberry ketones to name a few. They can work in a similar way to an energy drink, getting you up and motivated to actually go to the gym and burn some calories, which is one of the main factors that will help you lose that unwanted fat in the first place. Some ingredients fat burners can affect your hormone levels and how your fat is metabolised in your body to help use and burn fat as an energy source. However, the effects of fat burners will not fix your problem areas on their own.

The truth about all fat burners is simply this; they are a tool and if used properly, can be an effective aid in the ongoing fat fight. Currently, there are a plethora of fat burning products available on the market, but if you don’t have the basics down properly, you’re just going to be treading water and ultimately start to sink. One thing I constantly see in supplement stores, is people chasing down the latest fat burner without properly addressing the reasons why they need a fat burner to begin with. We’ve all heard the saying ‘You can’t out-train a poor diet’ and the same ideology should be married off with fat burners. Sticking to a controlled diet is 80 to 90 percent of your battle. If you can do that and stay consistent with it, then you’ll be setting yourself up to reap some shredded benefits. The rest is exercise, time, with a little extra help from supplementation as well.

Because at the end of the day, it’s important to remember that fat burners are just that, they’re supplements. They’re designed with ingredients that can really give you an extra boost to help burn fat when everything else is lined up perfectly, but they can’t and will never replace a solid diet and exercise plan. So get back to basics and when you feel confident about your diet and in control of your nutrition environment, only then should you start to explore fat loss supplementation to help tweak and speed up the process.
