Pre-workouts are possibly the most popular, sought-after, and versatile categories on the supplement market today. They aid in increasing your ability to perform during training sessions to help ensure you get the most out of each and every rep. Muscle Coach Supplements currently has over 25 different pre-workouts to choose from, so where do you even start?  Which products are best for you in delivering both value and results? Let us break it down for you, tell you what to look out for and which ingredients are going to be the most effective for maximum results!

Getting in certain nutrients in our body is an essential factor for maximizing performance; the timing of these can be critical when trying to get the most out of our supplementation. This is where pre-workouts, when formulated correctly can provide exceptional performance boosting benefits that makes them arguably one of the most important supplements you use in a day. Increase in energy, mental focus, skin splitting muscle pumps and performance are all great effects delivered by a good pre-workout, so which ingredients will yield these amazing benefits? Lets dive into the top 5 ingredients (minus caffeine) that help to take a pre-workout formulation to the next level, optimising your training and taking your body into overdrive.

#1 Citrulline Malate

Citrulline Malate is made up of two compounds, L-Citrulline and Malic acid. By combining the two together we see two separate benefits. The first is through L-Citrulline, which is used to support cardiovascular health by reducing fatigue and improving endurance, in both aerobic and anaerobic prolonged exercise. This is done through the prevention and removal of metabolic byproducts that accumulate during high intensity based activities. L-Citrulline will also increase levels or Arginine in the blood, aiding in the production of nitric oxide; this makes it a brilliant vasodilator which will not only aid in blood flow and delivery of nutrients to working muscles, but will also result in those crazy skin splitting pumps we crave during our workouts. Malic acid has its own list of benefits as it is an intermediate within the Krebs cycle (our body’s process to produce energy in the form of ATP) and allows for more production of aerobic ATP (adenosine Triphosphate). So not only do you get awesome muscle pumps, but you also get reduced fatigue and increased energy simultaneously. Dose required is between 4-8 grams.

#2 Beta-Alanine

Beta-Alanine will increase the concentration of Carnosine within the muscle, which acts as an acidity buffer that helps to clear away fatigue toxins that would ordinarily build up and inhibit your ability to train for extended periods of time. Clearing these acidic toxins from the body will allow you to perform more reps, sets and overall volume before you fatigue, meaning you can train harder for longer, increasing workload and stimulating more muscle growth. Dosing required is 3-5 grams.

#3 Creatine

Creatine is used to increase strength, power and aid in recovery, essentially aiding in the development of lean muscle tissue. Creatine does this by supporting the production and replenishment of ATP (adenosine Triphosphate), our body’s most important source of energy that will fuel muscular contraction. Creatine will also improve cell volume through its ability to draw fluid into the muscle cells, helping to hydrate muscles cells and increase nutrient uptake, maximising the muscle’s ability to recover and grow. Dosing required is around 3-5 grams.

#4 Tyrosine

L-Tyrosine is an amino acid that is used to produce neurotransmitters such as noradrenalin and dopamine in the brain. It is used increase mood, mental focus and act as an anti-stress for acute stressors. Stress induced from high intensity exercise can impact our ability to think clearly and perform; using L-Tyrosine prior to exercise can increase attention and cognitive performance, relieving our perception of stress and fatigue, dialing in that mental focus and allowing you to train harder for longer. Dose required is 500mg-2000mg.

#5 Taurine

Taurine has been shown to assist in our body’s ability to regulate muscular contractions and force production during aerobic and anaerobic activities. Increases in muscle force production can help to enhance fatigue resistance by increasing the efficiency of the heart and maintaining cell volume during severe bouts of high intensity exercise. It has also been shown that Taurine, when combined with caffeine can significantly improve mental performance and cognitive function, improving your ability to think clearly and remain focused during difficult training sessions. By using Taurine pre workout we are able to maintain muscular performance at a higher level for an extended period of time. Dose required is between 1-2grams.

All of these ingredients yield amazing benefits; however, you do not necessarily need all 5 in a single formula for it to be an effective pre-workout. Each ingredient warrants its own performance boosting result, so be selective in choosing a pre-workout with the ingredients you require tailored more towards your specific goal. Looking into the dosing of each ingredient will also help to ensure you get the right amount of these ingredients to elicit the desired result. Pre-workouts have the potential to take your training to the next level, by being selective and picking good quality, well dosed products, the benefits you can receive from pre workout supplementation is limited only by the work you put in. Be smart with your supplementation, train hard and stay consistent, the gains will come flowing your way!
